HOLLY ANNE ESKRIDGE
Fifteen Female Heterosexual Fifth Year Slytherin Maple with Phoenix Feather, 10 inches, flexible Aja Naomi King |
Modest | Diligent | Overcritical | Perfectionist |
Appearance
Though Holly is quite definitively pretty, she doesn't seem to see it that way, probably due in part to white beauty expectations. As a young black girl she feels insufficient. She straightens her curly hair everyday out of self-consciousness and isn't yet at the self-confidence to not care what anybody thinks of her. She has rich, chocolate-brown skin and darker eyes, and a long sheet of black hair. She is starting to have quite the hourglass figure, something she's pleased about.
She tries not to wear much makeup because her father doesn't approve, but she does indulge in mascara and occasionally, red lipstick just to make herself pop a bit when she wants to. Mostly though, she just settles for lipgloss.
As for her uniform, she's always perfectly presentable. Her skirt is pressed, her sweater vest and white shirt devoid of wrinkles, and her tie always flawlessly woven and tucked into it all. She believes strongly in good first impressions, so she keeps that in mind everyday when getting dressed. Her professors will never see her look tired or not well put together.
On weekends and holidays, she dresses modestly and enjoys sweaters and skirts, as well as flats to finish it all off. She's a fan of floral and solid colors.

Personality
Holly was born in mid-September making her a Virgo, and she is certainly a Virgo through-and-through. She can come off as very intense, because that's who she is as a person - fiercely passionate and breathtakingly ambitious. She's got something to prove and she's not going to let herself or anyone else down. She's incredibly meticulous and diligent in her work, and so it goes without saying that she's an extremely hard worker. She often does more than she's asked, and people have called her a try-hard, a teacher's pet, but she doesn't mind when she sees in her mind's eye, where she wants to be in life. She sees life analytically, like a game of chess and she's the queen taking slow, calculated steps through it.
She wants to be someone, and she knows she won't get there if she acts like the rest of her classmates. She has to work hard, put herself out there, and make sure she gets noticed in the way she wants to be; which means getting high marks, getting recognized for being involved in every part of the school she can possibly thrust herself into, and of course, becoming prefect. Her goal for her seventh year is to become Head Girl and president of several of the clubs she's already involved in.
However, trying so hard in her academic life means that she lets her social life slip quite a lot. She's fussy and a worrier and doesn't seem to get along very well with her fellow students. They see her as far too intense, basically to the point of annoying, and generally try to avoid her if they don't want to get told off or be on the receiving end of her newest rant. She avoids social gatherings like the plague and others claim she has no idea what fun means. It's probably true. She likes to stick to herself, constantly with some study material in hand, and doesn't remember the last time she took some time to relax for herself. There's always something she could be doing, and she's always doing it.

History
Holly was born into a mess of a family. Not necessarily a terrible one, just simply a mess. Her family are all muggles and blissfully unaware of magic, but nobody knew just how against it they were until Holly started displaying abilities before she was even a year old. Her family was constantly moving, only one of her five siblings was her full sibling, the rest half siblings from two or three other fathers. Her mother's love life was a tragic one, it was plain to see. She could hardly afford to have two children, let alone six, and relied upon her partners' careers to carry them. Holly's first year or so of life was a mess of constantly moving between places, an atmosphere of screaming, playing children and untidy, small apartments.
When Holly threw a tantrum and blasted open a window with her scream, the incident was warily brushed off. When she was separated from her favorite stuffed toy, it flew back into her arms and the incident was met with shock. The third time she displayed magic, her mother became quite afraid.
That was when a muggle liason showed up at her door - a wizard from the Ministry tasked with the duty to explain the situation to muggle families and offer them guidance and assistance. The liason's name was Roman Eskridge, and he had to spend hours explaining things to Holly's frantic mother, and when he left she was still very shaken.
Incidents continued to happen, to her mother's fear and eventually her siblings' terror as well, reflecting their mother's reaction in a way only children can. Holly was three when she'd had enough, and she brought the little girl to Roman's doorstep, demanding fearfully that he take her, because she was scaring her children, and that a witch was no daughter of hers. In later years, the rejection would hit Holly hard and she'll never truly get over it.
It was incredible luck that allowed Roman to adopt Holly himself. He'd never managed to marry, but had always wanted children; in a way, Holly was exactly what he had always wanted, was always looking for. Her raised her carefully but lovingly and she always knew growing up, that she was adopted. Her father wouldn't lie to her.
But she felt like she had something to prove, that she was better than her biological family, that she would be something more than some wretched little witch to them. She desperately wanted to be someone and she set a goal before she'd even turned 10 years old, that one day, she'd be Minister For Magic.
With that goal in mind, she charged into her Hogwarts education and it came as no surprise to Roman that she was sorted into Slytherin for her incredible ambition. Since then, Holly has done very well in her academics. She ensures she gets nothing less than Os, but has severely neglected her social life to the point her father - now a professor at Hogwarts - became concerned. He tried to set her up with study groups to make friends, but she always seemed to scare them off with her intensity.
She's joined several clubs and most students think she's got a time-turner because she can't possibly have enough time to attend class, show up to every club meeting, eat, sleep, and maintain her sanity. However, she's proven them wrong at every turn, and probably will continue to as she enters her fifth year.
